Some things to know about framing:
-
•“acid-free” is a relative term and is not held to any true standard in the art and framing industry.
-
•Custom framing at “big box” craft stores is more expensive even after their perpetually running 50% off coupon. They have fewer materials to choose from, questionable design ability, and lack technical finishing skills.
-
•Art does not have to be in direct sunlight to be damaged by UV light. Indirect ambient day light, florescent, and halogen lighting can be just as fatal to art.
-
•Archival framing is as much technique and method, as it is the materials used.
-
•Paintings on canvas don’t get matted and typically aren’t framed with glass.
