Some things to know about framing:

  1. “acid-free” is a relative term and is not held to any true standard in the art and framing industry.

  1. Custom framing at “big box” craft stores is more expensive even after their perpetually running 50% off coupon.  They have fewer materials to choose from, questionable design ability, and lack technical finishing skills.

  1. Art does not have to be in direct sunlight to be damaged by UV light.  Indirect ambient day light, florescent, and halogen lighting can be just as fatal to art.

  1. Archival framing is as much technique and method, as it is the materials used.

  1. Paintings on canvas don’t get matted and typically aren’t framed with glass.

AFTER

Over several years, paintings collect dirt, dust and grime, and varnishes yellow.  These layers need to be removed so the colors appear as they did when the artist first put brush to canvas.   Lloyd’s Art Center can clean, repair tears, and touch up your paintings.  Restoration projects are done on a case by case basis, as each piece of art is unique.  To find out if your piece can benefit from our services, we encourage clients to bring their artwork into the store for evaluation.
